Systems Engineer (Modelling and Control)
Overall Purpose of the Job
• Design and implementation of dynamic control systems.
Main Tasks and Activities
• Control Engineering involved in the design of real-time process control software systems as part of the complete automation system supply for metal rolling mills and other industrial applications.
• System identification (using modern software tools) and subsequent design of control loop configuration (often modification of existing deisgns) .
• On-line implementation using Industrial Process Control equipment in modern Function Block programming language.
• Commissioning of control systems using modern tuning methods.
New projects –
1) System study and specification of control requirements.
2) Where necessary, simulation of proposed control configuration by modification of established Matlab/Simulink software
3) Software design and implementation on industrial automation platform using Function Block language (training will be given) and in some cases Ladder logic.
4) Unit test and integration of control functions with automation functions for product tracking and actuator referencing.
5) System demonstration to customers prior to delivery.
6) Commissioning and tuning of control loops after installation on the customers industrial plant.
Support of existing customers –
1) Analysis of control problems reported by the customer. Where necessary use of simulation software to reproduce reported events.
2) Calculation of control gains to meet alternative stability and response requirements.
3) Where necessary design and implementation of software changes to existing systems.
4) Customer support on site where necessary to assist in fault finding (for limited periods only).

• Appropriate personal heath and safety training will be provided.

Essential Qualifications and Training:
Qualifications/Training
Degree ( 2.1 class or better)t :
Electrical Engineering
Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Applied Mathematics
Control Engineering
Or other relevant engineering topic.
Desirable Qualifications and Training:
MSc in a relevant topic covering aspects of real-time control.
Experience
• . Minimum 18 months industrial experience control systems including the tuning of PID control loops
Circumstances:
Must be willing to travel and work overseas for significant periods.
Language skills:
Especially French and German.
